About Shimla

Shimla is a serene and beauteous hill station that is located in the state of Himachal Pradesh at the foothills of the Himalayas. The erstwhile hill station got its name from Devi Shyamala, an incarnation of Goddess Kali. Gorton Castle

A neo-gothic architectural masterpiece, the Gorton castle was built during 1901-04 under the British reign. The building is a striking piece of art that is today houses the office of the Accountant General Of the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Gaiety Theatre

The Gaiety Theater was built in the year 1887 as a five storey buildings and inaugurated in the year 1888. The theater was the sole place for entertainment and housed a stage for Shimla Amateur Dramatic club. The theater is built from stone with intricate carvings and artistically forged windows, door, lintels ad openings. The theatre was one of its kinds in the ancient times and also comprised boxes, galleries, beautiful paintings and sculptures.

Jakhoo Hill

Jakhoo Hill is a famous spot with immense natural beauty and splendor, which has a temple atop dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Located at a height of 2,455 m (8,000 feet) above sea level, it is one of the largest statues to be located at such a great height.

Christ Church

The Christ Church is the 2nd oldest Church of North India. The church is one of the religious places of attraction in Shimla that was adorned with beautiful stained glass windows with images of holy spirits.

Kalibari Temple

Kalibari Temple is a popular tourist attraction of Shimla, that was erected in 1845 in honor of Goddess Shyamala. The temple was originally situated on the Jakhu hill and was later brought it the new site by the British rulers.
